“I have no remorse towards his family. His mother came to our house after Angelique died to pay her respects ... there is no point fighting,” Clarke told the DispatchLIVE.

More than 350 people attended Clarke-Abrahams’s funeral the Christian Centre in Abbotsford on Monday. Matthew Peake conducted the ceremony. “It was so beautiful. It was very celebratory of Angelique’s life, with slide show pictures of her and dancing,” Clarke said.

Also in attendance were ANC officials, while Buffalo City Municipality did the catering. Her alleged killer was arrested on a charge of murder and is remanded in custody until his next court appearance in the East London magistrate’s court on October 18.

He first faced charges of rape and  assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm before Clarke-Abrahams succumbed to her injuries at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital and he was also charged with murder.

She worked as a control clerk at Red Alert Security.

Clarke said she had been overwhelmed by the support the family had received, not only from thousands of people in East London but also from well-wishers abroad.

“I just want to say thank you to all of them,” she said.
