Queen Noloyiso Sandile, who was the regent of AmaRharhabe Kingdom for almost 10 years, will be buried at Mngqesha Great Place near King William's Town on Sunday.

Royal spokesperson, Nkosi Xhanti Sigcawu, made the announcement on Thursday evening following the daylong meeting of the royal family, which included members of Gcaleka royal house who are brothers of Sandile and the great house of the AmaXhosa nation.

“The decision followed a meeting of the Sandile royal family, AmaGcaleka representatives and other houses of AmaTshawe royal clan, and we all agreed of the Sunday July 12 as a suitable date for the send-off the Her Majesty the queen,” said Sigcawu.

He, however, said that the royal family of Sandile and the entire houses of King Phalo were still waiting for the presidential pronouncement of the funeral to be accorded to the Queen, who was also a Zulu princess and sister of the reigning Zulu Kingdom monarch King Goodwill Zwelithini.

Her Majesty was a sitting queen reigning AmaRharhabe when she passed on, and it is expected that President Cyril Ramaphosa pronounced on the funeral to be accorded to her

“Her Majesty was a sitting queen reigning AmaRharhabe when she passed on, and it is expected that President Cyril Ramaphosa pronounced on the funeral to be accorded to her,” said Sigcawu.

The royal family also officially confirmed that the queen succumbed to a coronavirus related illness.

“After interacting with doctors and the health department we can now confirm the cause of death of Her Majesty the Queen — pneumonia in the background of a Covid-19 positive result,” said Sigcawu.

He said that the funeral would be held in line with the regulation of coronavirus guidelines.

“If the governance say there must be 50 mourners we will be abided with that, and if the government say that we can have more, we will also welcome that. We will be directed by the government to ensure adherence to the Covid-19 regulation and ensure that all who would attend their health will not be compromised,” said Sigcawu.

According to AmaRharhabe standing tradition, a successor is named on the day of the funeral of the departed incumbent.

Sigcawu said that matter was being dealt with by the royal family.

It is expected that the name of the successor will be announced by the Sigcawus of the house of Gcaleka.

Sigcawu said that the passing on of Queen Noloyiso came at the time when they were still morning the passing of AmaXhosa King Mpendulo Sigcawu on November 14 2019.

Representatives of the house of Gcaleka will on Friday travel from Nqadu Great Place in Willowvale to visit the brothers in the Mngqesha Great Place, and the two royal houses will fine tune a programme of action.
