Provincial police commissioner  Lt-Gen Liziwe Ntshinga spoke out strongly against mob killings and revenge attacks in the Eastern Cape.

“We will never tolerate the acts of people taking the law into their own hands. Everyone has a right to life. We urge our communities to report any crime to us,” she said.

Visiting Ngcobo with premier Oscar Mabuyane recently, she said a provincial police task team had been set up to take on stock theft and related crimes.

“Police are doing their best in the province to combat stock theft and anyone suspected of stock theft must be apprehended and taken to police so that they can be formally charged. Under no circumstances should people take the law into their own hands through torture and murder,” Ntshinga said.

Ntshinga and transport, safety & liaison MEC Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe   have embarked on awareness campaigns in Qumbu, Tsolo, Ngcobo,  Matatiele, Sterkspruit, Mthatha and other towns where stock theft is rife.
