Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt for two balaclava-clad suspects who allegedly gunned down four young men at Joe Slovo in Cofimvaba on Tuesday evening.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana said a fifth victim was left seriously injured during the attack.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that two balaclava-clad suspects entered one of the flats in the homestead where the deceased were staying and enquired about the whereabouts of one of the deceased,”  said Kinana.

“They started shooting when they saw the first man. They then proceeded to another flat, where they shot and killed the other three men,” Kinana said.

He said the motive for the shooting was unknown.

Police are investigating four cases of murder. A case of an attempted murder is also under investigation.

No arrest has been made  yet.

Police commissioner Lt-Gen Liziwe Ntshinga has ordered a 72-hour activation plan to speed up the investigation.

Kinana urged anyone with information to come forward.
