DIY Depot expands from Buffalo Street to open second branch in Gonubie

Hardware franchise store DIY Depot opened a small branch in East London in 2013.  From those humble beginnings in Cambridge they moved and have been operating for the past few years from Buffalo Street. They recently expanded to open a new store in Gonubie three months ago.

Owners Mike De Lacy and Preshaan Lawa said all the hard work they put into the Buffalo Street business has allowed them to grow.

Mike has been living in Gonubie for the past 35 years and saw there was a need for their store in the community.

“We are service and price driven. We want to have that relationship of a small town community with Gonubie,”said Mike.

This was immediately evident through a steady stream of customers into the store with greetings of hello being exchanged all around.

Preshaan said: “It’s a passion to always strive for greater heights and improve yourself in your personal life. With that philosophy I also extend it towards the store – to not sit back and let things happen, but to bring about change.”

Mike added: “Preshaan has been the driving force behind our success at Buffalo Street.”

 Preshaan said: “Owning a business is no walk in the park. We have had a hard slog these past eight years. Some months Mike and I would look at each other and not know how we’d make it through.

“To get to this point where we can expand has taken a lot of courage, hard work and determination.

“We are truly grateful to all our customers for their support.”

Mike said: “We are excited to be part of the Gonubie community and appeal to everyone to come and support us.

“If there’s something you want that we don’t have in stock, we can order it for you. Just pop in and ask us.”
