As they point out, with crime up, petty violence and road rage increasing, and mass looting simmering after the July riots, personal and business property is at increasing risk.

Before reaching the stage where a current policy is unaffordable, consult your broker. Work out what is essential, meaning what could you not live without, or in business terms, what is vital to keeping the doors open and the minimum service level that will keep clients satisfied.

Then, as a final step, get ready to bargain. Squeeze the negotiation down to the last rand. And, if you are not satisfied, start shopping around.
