Swimmers who take part in any of the three events of this year’s Merrifield Mile stand a good chance of walking away with fabulous prizes thanks to the support of fantastic sponsors.

A bicycle, Swatch watches, vouchers and tablets are just a few of the prizes on offer to finishers, in addition to the Fitbit that will be given away by lucky draw to a swimmer who enters before 1pm on Friday, February 26.

The 14th Merrifield Mile takes place on February 28 at the Wriggleswade Dam and is made up of three separate events: the Spur Fun Wriggle, the 500m Dash and 1.6km Mile.

“The prizes this year are absolutely amazing, thanks to the generosity and support of our sponsors,” said event organiser Tracey Mangold.

“We encourage all swimmers in the Border area to come along and swim with us at the region’s premier swimming event.

“Not only will you and spectators have a great day out in the country, thanks to our sponsors you stand a great chance of winning something fabulous to take home.”

The Merrifield Mile is this year powered by Nedbank. Other sponsors include Ricoh Fusion, Ola, Amatola Water, Cape Cladding, Vodacom, the Stutt Group, Let’s Travel, Stone Towers, Link FM, Think Ahead Education Solutions, Dennis Collins Jewellers, Out the Green Box, Rance Timber, Powerade, Cycle HQ, Sportsmans Warehouse, Vincent Park, Spur and Merrifield Preparatory School and College.

Go&Express are the media partner of the event, which is also supported by the Border Canoe Club, EL Surf Lifesaving, NSRI and EL Metro EMS.

The support of the sponsors means that not only do category winners walk away with great prizes for their efforts – each prize is worth a minimum R400 – but there are also enough prizes in the lucky draw pool to ensure many swimmers will be delighted when their name is drawn.

Swimmers must attend prizegiving to be eligible for lucky draw prizes.

Each swimmer also receives a goody bag and swimming cap, to be collected at registration at Merrifield School on Saturday, February 27, between 9am and 1pm. Entries can be completed online at www.merrifieldmile.co.za, at Sportsmans Warehouse in Retail Park, Cycle HQ in Nahoon or at Merrifield Prep School and College, on the corner of Bonza Bay road and the N6.

The price of entry is R110 for the longer swims, open to swimmers aged nine and older, and R80 for the Wriggle, which is open to children aged nine and under. Entries remain open right through to Sunday morning where late entries, at a cost of R150, will be accepted until 11am at Wriggleswade Dam.

All information related to the event, including overnight camping at the dam, is available at www.merrifieldmile.co.za. For further details, contact Tracey Mangold on 043-748-6094. — DDC
