Molefi Ntseki’s ill-fated stint as Kaizer Chiefs coach has come to an end with Cavin Johnson, who recently joined as head of the youth development academy, taking over on an interim basis.

In their statement on Monday, Chiefs cited the club’s recent poor form as the reason behind Ntseki’s “mutual consent” exit. The writing seemed to be on the wall already for Ntseki when fans threw objects at him after losing 1-0 to AmaZulu in the Carling Knockout at the weekend, forcing him to be escorted by security personnel and police off the pitch.

It was the third time this term that the Amakhosi faithful attacked Ntseki after losing. Dillon Sheppard will retain his position as the assistant coach while Ntseki’s former right-hand man Arthur Zwane will return to his former role within the development structures of the club.

“Following a meeting on Monday morning, Ntseki's tenure as head coach of Kaizer Chiefs has ended amicably by mutual consent. Given the recent run of disappointing results, the parties agreed that this was the best course of action under the prevailing circumstances,” Chiefs’ statement read.

“Cavin Johnson, who recently joined Chiefs as head of the youth development academy, will take over as the first team coach on an interim basis. Current assistant coach Dillon Sheppard will retain his position under Johnson. Assistant coach, Zwane will return to his former role within the development structures of the club.”
