Top acts lined up for EL Countdown Festival

Partygoers in East London will usher in the New Year with some of the biggest names in the South African entertainment industry.
The fourth annual East London Countdown Festival kicks off on December 31 at the Buffalo City Stadium, with the party set to continue well into the New Year.
“We tried to balance everything. We are aware that not everyone loves one genre of music, which is why we mixed it up,” said media liaison for LGVN events, Luyolo Beku.
Veteran award-winning afro-soul singer Ringo Madlingozi will be among the star-studded lineup which includes rapper KO, Amanda Black, Sho Majodzi, Ntombethongo, Pastor the DJ, Mobi Dixon and Lady Mpumie. Local artists who will help get the crowd hyped include Blomzit Avenue, Slogan, Lush, DJ Converse, Seven D, Natz EFX, Mjazz, DJ Lynch, GQ and DJ Welo.
Beku said they encouraged people to arrive on time for the event.
Blomzit Avenue, an East London-born DJ who has made waves nationally, said: “It is an honour for me to play in the Countdown festival again. It has had a big contribution to my career. So many people who are in the entertainment industry go to these events and some would approach me for events.”
Hip-hop artist, rapper and songwriter KO said he was excited to be performing in East London. “East London always has a great vibe and energy out there.”
General tickets for the event cost R200 and VIP tickets go up to R1,500. Beku said they had various packages to cater for everyone. Gates for the festival open at 2pm, and cooler boxes are permitted at a cost of R50.
