It’s all systems go for the much-anticipated Spar Daily Dispatch Fun Run on Sunday.

The annual family friendly run/walk starts at the Orient pools on Sunday morning.

Among those who will take part is running enthusiast, department of sport, recreation, arts & culture MEC Fezeka Bayeni who said she is raring to go: “We are looking forward to participating. I’ll be using this 8km run as part of my preparations for the Brac [Buffalo Runners Athletic Club] race in a fortnight. I encourage everyone to support these races and take up an active sporting lifestyle.”

Daily Dispatch marketing manager Jennilee Peremore-Oliver said: “We are looking forward to the race. It promises to be a wonderful event. We think this is a great way for us to connect with the East London community.”

The 4km part of the race is disability friendly, with R10 of each entry going to the Sweethearts Foundation. Spar will select a beneficiary to receive the wheelchair.

People are reminded to keep the environment in mind during the event and to not litter. Refuse bins will be available throughout the route. Participants are asked not to wear headphones. This is to prevent people from not hearing danger warnings. Registration for the run closes on Saturday at 1pm.
