BUFFALO City rappers Nandoz, Number and Blaqphamas got their moment in the spotlight yesterday when they performed live on e.tv’s breakfast show, Sunrise.
The rappers went to Johannesburg this week after Nandoz – whose real name is Lwanda Soldati – was invited to perform on the morning show.
Soldati recorded his first music video, Majika featuring Number (Malizo Radebe) earlier this year. Soldati said he had submitted his music to various channels, including e.tv.
“At e.tv they told me about an opportunity to perform on Sunrise. They said I must leave my music and CV,” he said.
After reviewing his music, the producer of the show called him to say they were impressed with his work. He was then invited to perform on Sunrise.
Prior to the invitation, the rappers had decided to partner together to build and expand their music base in the province. When the opportunity to perform on Sunrise came up, Soldati decided to include Radebe and Blaqphamas (Xolisa Hackula).
Yesterday, Soldati first performed his own track Phole’ ngqenstu and was later joined by Radebe and Hackula. “I performed Majika in which I feature Number, then we did his song What you Need featuring myself and Blaqphamas,” said Soldati.
For the final performance, Soldati performed Kasi lam and was also interviewed on the show.
“Before performing I was nervous but as soon as we did a sound check, I was okay,” Soldati said, adding that he hoped their performance would motivate other Eastern Cape artists
“This shows anything is possible. It’s about showing people that even though we have not yet made it big we do not have to be in Johannesburg to get such opportunities.”
Radebe and Hackula said they were grateful Soldati had included them.
“This was my first time performing live on national television.
“I was panicking and hoping I wouldn’t make a mistake and discourage the other guys,” Radebe said. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
