Christmas party for EL's homeless

Several churches in the East London CBD have organised a joint Christmas party for homeless people in the city.

The party will be held on December 24 at the Salvation Army Church in Southernwood. The party – hosted by the Salvation Army Church – Downtown Christian Centre, First City Baptist and New Hope will see hundreds of homeless people getting health and dental service followed by lunch.

According to Edouard Zola who is a minister at the Salvation Army Church, this was the third year that they have hosted such a party on a cooperative basis with other churches.

“While most of us will be cooking our Christmas lunches, homeless people will probably be lying in the bushes or on the street corners wondering were their next meal will come from.

“This party is just to remind them that they are not forgotten and they too deserve to be treated,” he said.

Zola said while most of the homeless people were informed about the party at the soup kitchens held at the different churches through-out the year, others will be collected by a bus that will be driving through the city on the day.

They party will start at 10am where the dental and health services will be provided to the homeless, then followed by lunch at 12pm.
