Two die in E Cape accident

Police were investigating a case of culpable homicide after two men died and eight others were seriously injured in an accident on Uitenhage Road between Kwadwesi and Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape police said yesterday.

“It is alleged that a Toyota Corolla with four occupants inside was travelling along Uitenhage Road from Kwadwesi to Port Elizabeth direction,” said Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu.

A Toyota Conquest with five people inside was stationary at a red robot at Bethelsdorp Road and a Renault Cleo with the driver the only occupant travelling along Uitenhage Road from the Missonvale NMMU campus direction.

The Corolla collided with the Renault at the robots and the Renault as a result collided with the Conquest, said Gwavu.

“The Toyota Corolla overturned and two men, 42, who is the driver and a passenger, 56-years-old, died on the scene.”

The two passengers were seriously injured in the Corolla, while the five people in the Conquest and the driver of the Renault were also seriously injured. "They were taken to Dora Nginza, Livingstone and Mercantile hospitals. We are investigating a case of culpable homicide,” Gwavu said.

The accident happened around 8pm on Friday.
