Bebe Winans to perform in EL

International music star Bebe Winans is expected to unite gospel fanatics in song when he performs in East London this Easter.

Winans will be performing at the annual Easter Gospel Feast organised by Vovee Music Productions.

Organiser Vovee Batala said they had been working on the event since they launched the feast in 2013. The event will take place in April at the Absa Stadium.

“The plan was to have him here last year but things did not go as planned and we had to cancel the event.

I spoke to him again late 2014 about the event. By the end of last month, we had already finalised payments,” Batala said.

He said at the moment the company was organising the event using their own finances.

“We are doing this thing on our own. We have been knocking on various departments for assistance but no luck. We are still waiting on some,” he said.

The Easter Feast celebrates the death and resurrection of Christ.

Batala said they decided to bring Winans because he would appeal to a lot of people across the province.

Vovee Music Production is also responsible for a number of events that take place around the province. Every year they bring down national artists to perform alongside local musicians.

Batala said their Easter programme would start from April 3 to 6.

“We have partnered with boxing legends Welcome Ncita and Vuyani Bungu to have a special tournament for local boxers,” he said.

He also added that they would have a soccer tournament for local teams as well.

“We do not only want to focus on gospel music but we want people to know that the Eastern Cape has more to offer,” he said.

For both tournaments, Batala said there would be special prizes for the winner.

Batala said one of their long term goals was to have a 15000 seater dome built in the Eastern Cape. “A lot of people don’t believe that Bebe is coming to East London because in the past we have been excluded from such events.”

A number of local artists are expected to perform alongside Winans on Easter Monday.

“We trust that God will help us in making this event even bigger in the coming years,” he said.

lTickets will start from R300 and will be available at Computicket. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
