The statue of Cecil John Rhodes at the University of Cape Town had hardly been removed when a prank advertisement selling the statue appeared on Gumtree.

For the reasonable price of only R1 500‚ you can get this “genuine piece of South African history for your own garden!”‚ the ad reads.

According to the post‚ the “previous owner is trying to erase the past” and the “statue comes with a free international scholarship which can change your future”.

The advertisement also came with a caveat.

“Warning: statue is so interesting it may cause you to forget about your studies or anything else you’re doing that may improve your life.”
