School shoes to lift rural children

Tsomo philanthropist Zolani Mbeki has 1000 pairs of school shoes that he wants to give to needy schools and is urging school to contact him for assistance.

Mbeki runs the Zolani Mbeki Foundation, started in 2010, to help those less fortunate.

Every year Mbeki gives shoes to schools in need and hosts motivational talks.

“Ever since I started the foundation, I’ve been helping schools in Tsomo but now I want to help other schools in different areas within the province,” he said.

Last year he hosted a VIP experience matric dance for four disadvantaged high schools from Tsomo, at the East London Golf Club, and featured several celebrity guests.

The former Zwelivumile Senior Secondary School pupil said he wanted to show rural school children that they could be anything.

Mbeki works as a project accountant for Eskom’s head office.

He said his foundation was committed to empowering and developing rural children to explore and pursue their dreams and talents.

“We want to enhance their quality of life, develop their self-esteem and and find permanent and sustainable solutions to their problems as children growing up from rural areas.”

Mbeki said schools could contact him with details of pupils in need of new shoes on 083-821-8409 or zolanimbekifoundation@gmail.com
