Animal activists will be delighted to know that East London will from next week host an all-human animal-free circus extravaganza.

USSIE: The Australian Circus Spectacular presented by Weber Bros Entertainment is on a nationwide tour that will be bringing their big top circus to the Old Selbornian Club from next Thursday and will run until Sunday March 13.

Executive producer of the show, Cape Town-born Sebastian Cassie, said this is the first time that Aussie has visited foreign soil, and they promised to leave audiences in awe with the cast performing unbelievable feats.

“Highlights of the show include one of the world’s few surviving human cannonball acts performed by expert stuntman Luiz Daza who has literally flown over audiences seven days a week during the sell-out run of the Great Euro Circus in Australia,” Cassie said.

He said the audien ce could also anticipate a feel-good circus spectacular that blends stunning acrobatics, hilarious performer antics and extreme stunts.

“Audiences will also marvel at the dizzying Globe of Death act which features up to five motorbike riders circling a daring dancer with Mad Max-style bravado before the sphere splits in half for thrilling freestyle motocross stunts,” he said.

Former SPCA manager and inspector Sandy Taylor, who founded activist group East London Animal Warriors, said the circus sets an example to other circuses that animals are not always necessary.

“This is such a marvellous trend and we hope others follow suit. Human acts are honestly fantastic enough without the animals, we absolutely encourage people to go and see this show.”

Coordinator of Ban Animal Trading Smaragda Louw said that she wished all local shows would do the same.

“We still love the circus despite the absence of animals and we would love for people to go and see this circus and make that comparison themselves.”

Tickets are available at Computicket starting at R200.
