Sex-for-jobs accused sworn in as ANC MPL

Pumelele Ndamase, who is implicated in a sex-for-jobs scandal, has been sworn in as an ANC MPL this morning

Ndamase was administration head of the provincial legislature when the sex-for-jobs  allegations were levelled against him.

Workers affiliated to the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu), unionists who blew the whistle on the alleged sex- for-jobs scandal, protested Ndamase's swearing in as ANC member of provincial legislature (MPL) at the Bhisho legislature.

Nehawu chairman at the legislature Madoda Nkwali said

they were opposed to Ndamase's appointment. "We are very disappointed that they conducted it in East London. The legislature was aware that we were going to disrupt the proceedings," Nkwali said.

However, provincial legislature secretary Vuyani Mapolisa disputed claims that Ndamase's swearing in was moved to East London due to fears of disruptions.

He said the move was prompted by the unavailability of provincial legislature speaker Noxolo Kiviet in Bhisho. "The Speaker had commitments in East London and we used our second office there."

He said the second office was used when the legislature avoided "interruptions" in cases of interviews and other matters related to disciplinary hearings.

He said the legislature was not aware of any planned disruptions.
