SACP may probe BCM council speaker

The Buffalo City Metro council speaker Zoliswa Matana might find herself in hot water after her South African Communist Party (SACP) leaders in the metro called for a probe into her management of party funds.

The decision was taken by Skenjana Roji district leaders during their third district congress a week ago.

Matana, who is the former district treasurer, is alleged to have failed to account for R79600 in SACP funds.

Matana is the only SACP district leader who served in the previous structure who did not make it to the newly elected leadership.

She has since been replaced by former deputy secretary Xolani Wonono after she did not accept nomination as she had more responsibilities as BCM speaker.

The Dispatch learnt she allegedly failed to deliver a report on finances, an allegation of which Matana said she had no knowledge.

“I am SACP member and I will remain the party’s member. I was in a discussions in that congress and I do not know of these allegations. I will not be able to comment because the SACP has not formally informed me of this.

“This is just character assasination and lowering of my dignity,” Matana said.

It is understood that the district congress has a resolution to request the new district leaders to draft a report into the unaccounted for funds and send it to the provincial structure.

SACP district spokesman Ludwe Mnweba yesterday confirmed the matter was discussed in the congress but refused to comment further.

“The matter consitute some of the issues that were discussed by the congress. The matter was dicussed in the closed session of the congress and therefore remains confidential. We therefore cannot divulge the process that will be followed as per the resolves of the congress,” Mnweba said.

A party member privy to the information said the party wanted all the funds to be accounted for and recovered if needed.

“The SACP does not have money, so an amount like that is huge for us. We need for it to be accounted for,” the member said.

A senior party member in the region, who spoke with the Daily Dispatch yesterday, said the allegation formed part of a smear campaign against Matana.
