Dutywa trader killed at home

A Well-known Dutywa businessman was found murdered in his home on Thursday night.

Mlamli Tetyana, the nephew of Mbhashe municipality UDM councillor Mzimkhulu Tetyana, was stabbed five times in his stomach and four times in his back. His throat had also been slashed.

Tetyana, 57, a former school teacher, was married with three children.

Police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said the murder occurred just after 8pm on Thursday. The motive for the murder was unknown and no arrests had been made.

A heartbroken Mzimkhulu Tetyana said the family, from Mabheleni location in Candu Village, was hoping police would bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.

He said his nephew was found dead in the doorway of his bedroom at the family’s three-roomed homestead.

The middle room was used as the family’s spaza shop, which was where the businessman’s wife, Mihle, was said to be when the murder took place.

Mzimkhulu said his nephew, who had been to East London that day, had arrived home in the evening, and had then gone out to fetch water.

“Upon his return from fetching water, he walked straight to his room. It appears the suspects were already in his room. He was accosted when he opened the door leading to his room; that is when he was stabbed nine times.”

Mihle and two of her children had not heard a commotion.

“His wife discovered him dead when she stepped outside the shop and saw his legs showing from the doorway. She screamed and alerted neighbours,” Mzimkhulu said.

Police from Dutywa police station were called and rushed to the scene.

Mzimkhulu said his nephew was not robbed of anything, and his family was not aware of him having any enemies.

Mlamli Tetyana taught at Nolitha Junior Secondary School for 24 years. He is survived by his wife and three daughters Qaqamba, Thulile and Thabile.

Manatha said the murder investigation was at a sensitive stage. Dutywa police had appealed to anyone who might have information on the murder to contact them at 047 489 1333, or phone Crime Stop at 08600-10111.
