They used to be inseparable: from attending glam events together‚ to supporting each other when they got big gigs and those booze-filled afternoons at their houses‚ their friendship was something that inspired.
When Somizi confirmed what we’ve all known for a while now‚ there was shock.
He says he had heard rumours and to this day doesn’t know what happened.
“All I hear is that she thinks or she was told that I told Zinhle about her relationship with AKA… but why? Why would I do that to her? I want the three of them‚ Zinhle‚ AKA and Bonang‚ to sit down and tell me who said that I said what. I’m too old for this sh***. People come in your life and leave for a reason.”
Team Bonang says Somizi is a gossip
Reports of their friendship turning sour first emerged in February this year when Move magazine claimed that DJ Zinhle had fingered Somizi as the person who had given her the scoop on Bonang and AKA’s relationship.
“Sources say things took a turn for the worse when AKA was trying to reconcile with Zinhle‚ who revealed that she knew that AKA and Bonang were still seeing each other. When AKA pressed Zinhle for information about where she heard the news‚ the DJ apparently revealed that Somizi told her about AKA and Bonang’s relationship.”
It was then that AKA allegedly pressured Bonang to confront Somizi.
“He told Bonang to tell Somizi to stay out of his business. He also told Bonang to choose between their relationship and Somizi. AKA has always hated the friendship between Somizi and Bonang.”
The fame game gone wrong
While Somizi has always been well-known in his own right as a choreographer‚ it was always Bonang who was more famous.
With her gigs at Metro‚ Top Billing and those big deals‚ B revelled in her ‘it’ girl status.
Sources close to Bonang say that while she publicly applauded Somizi’s success‚ the fact that he was becoming more famous than him was a problem.
“She was jealous. He was getting success after success. Idols SA‚ a reality show and talks of a radio gig. It was a pinch. She was happy for him‚ but at the same time‚ she was jealous.”
Where to from here?
With Somizi suggesting a sit-down meeting so that the issue can be sorted out‚ those close to the star say that he has moved on. “He was upset at first and didn’t understand what had happened. And the fact the people were pointing fingers at him and not giving him the chance to have his say. But he’s also over it. It’s been months and he just hates those awkward moments.”
As for B? Well‚ Somizi was just one of her friends who has stood by her. “She doesn’t like her personal stuff being spoken about in the press. He’s opened a can of worms but she does miss him. He was there for her through all of the rough times.”
