Mthatha has come to a standstill as government leaders continue to arrive for the official launch of the revamped Nelson Mandela Museum.
The facility was closed down for several years with at least R60-million pumped in by government to give it a major facelift.
Today's opening of the museum forms part of the International Mandela Day celebrations to celebrate former state president Nelson Mandela's birthday on July 18.
Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa is at the event and is billed to give the keynote address. His provincial counterpart MEC Pemmy Majodina is also in attendance.
Several streets have been cordoned off and traffic redirected to other streets to allow easy acess for those attending the museum opening at the Old Bhunga House where the facility is housed.
More than 500 people have already arrived for the event, some of them clad in ANC T-shirts.
