Killers who slaughtered a farm worker jailed for life

Police have said two men who killed a Kei Mouth farm worker by slaughtering him “like a sheep” in 2012 have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The four-year-old case was finalised in the East London High Court on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Captain Mluleki Mbi said the murder took place after a robbery at Silver Valley farm in May 2012.

He said the robbery and murder was committed by Thembalani Jackson Bizani and Vuyani Klaas. They were each sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for robbery and life in prison for murder.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Mbi said: “The men stormed the farm and robbed the farm worker who also served as a watchman. They made off with tools such as grinders, drills and wheelbarrow.”

Mbi said the farm worker, who lived on the farm alone as the owner stays in East London, established the identities of the two men a week later.

“He approached them and requested them to return the items. The two men promised to return the tools. They returned a day later at the farm where they found the farm worker alone.

“They threatened him with a knife and asked him to accompany them. They then walked about 100m from the farm worker’s house to an isolated, unused dipping tank where they ordered the farm worker to lie flat on his back on the ground,” Mbi said.

Fearing for his life, the farm worker did as told.

“Klass held the farm worker by his legs preventing him from making any significant movement while Bizani began to slit the farm worker’s throat,” Mbi said.

After killing the victim they dumped his body in a dipping tank. His badly decomposed body was found a month later.

Mbi said the deceased’s family will hopefully find solace in knowing that both the perpetrators were now behind bars. — zwangam@dispatch.co.za
