Three sisters killed by lightning in the Eastern Cape

Three sisters were declared dead after being struck by lightning while they were at home alone in the Eastern Cape.

The sisters‚ aged 7‚ 10 and 18‚ were in a rondavel when lightning struck the hut on Thursday evening in Vonqo Village‚ Dutywa.

“The parents of the children were not at home when the unfortunate incident happened. The grandmother of the children was in a separate house‚” police said in a statement.

“She was not struck by the lighting. Dutywa Police have opened an inquest docket.”

The identities of the sisters will only be released once all of their family members are informed of their death.
