Police ask robbery victims to claim seized TV sets

East London police are inviting members of the public whose big-screen plasma TVs were taken in house robberies to visit Fleet Street police station.

This after police confiscated 13 TVs and shut down a shop operating illegally in Buffalo Street and selling suspected stolen TVs and digital equipment.

A person aged 25 was arrested, and suspected stolen property to the value of about R150000 seized on Saturday. East London police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said: “Homeowners who recently fell victim to house robberies and lost belongings should...bring documentation showing the serial numbers of the TVs.”

  • More than 40 Mdantsane police members were awarded gold medals for long service on Wednesday. The officers, with 10 to 30 years of service, are stationed at the Inyibiba, Vulindlela, Komga, Cambridge, Mooiplaas, Blue Water, Kei Mouth, NU1, Macleantown and Berlin police stations.
  • Mdantsane police arrested a Komga couple for dealing in drugs after 37 mandrax tablets, 5kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R7220, and an undisclosed amount of cash were allegedly found in their possession on Saturday. The two, aged 49 and 35, are due to appear in court soon.
  • Six foreign nationals were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act in Mdantsane and Newlands during a raid of 20 foreign-owned shops yesterday.

The six were arrested by a joint task team comprising the Vulindlela police crime prevention unit, home affairs officials and Buffalo City Metro law enforcement officers.
