Charges against Senqu municipality official dropped

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has dropped charges of defeating the ends of justice against Senqu local municipality municipal manager Mxolisi Yawa.

 Yawa was arrested while a case of fraud, corruption and violating the Municipal Finance Management act was being investigated against him, his personal assistant Octavia Bambilawu, her mother and business partner and former chief financial officer Chris Venter was being investigated.

 Investigating officer of the Hawks Captain Luphumulo Lwana was accused of having refused to show his identification and the arrest was recorded in a cellphone belonging to planning director Palesa Bushula. Lwana is accused of having took the cellphone and arrested Yawa, Bushula and their attorney Andre Schoombee.

 NPA regional spokesman Tsepo Ndwalaza confirmed the charges have been dropped against the three. However Yawa, the Bambilawus and Venter were found guilty of the initial charges and are appealing it.
