Mthatha police’s Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) has recovered 78 stolen or hijacked vehicles and half of these are mostly trucks.

Colonel Fezile Mgolombane, who heads the VCIU, said most of these H100 trucks were stolen because they had the potential to generate income as these are a popular mode of transport in rural communities.

“We discovered that there was a syndicate operating especially in the Ngqeleni coastal area and that most of these vehicles are either stolen or hijacked and in November last year,” said Mgolombane.
