Two high school pupils from Lady Frere have been confirmed dead after they drowned on the early hours of this morning at the Eastern Beach.

Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said the East London Flying Squad members were patrolling at the beach when they were alerted by  community members about the drowning.

“It is alleged that these schools kids came from Lady Frere to play sport in the East London area.

“They also went to the beach front and others swem while others were having lunch. A boy and a girl drowned in that process and their bodies were swept out by the sea.  The two youths are aged between 16 and 17 years and are from different schools,” Mqala said. This is a developing story.
