Festival to celebrate much more than macadamias

The final preparations are in place for this year’s Ncera Macadamia Harvest Festival which will take place in the village this weekend.
Princess Nomaxhosa Jongilanga said the community was ready to host the province in one of the biggest events on the calendar of Ncera village.
“We started preparing for this from the beginning of 2018 by having three roadshows in the communities. The entire village is ready as information was distributed to all members of the community.”
Jongilanga said the festival would boost the village’s economy.
“The weekend is not only about Ncera, but all the communities around Buffalo City Metro. Through the media we have managed to get through to many of the communities that we wanted to invite.”
She said the event was designed with families in mind. “The beauty of this festival is that it is not just a music festival – it is about Ncera and macadamias and celebrating our harvest. It is going to be a fun-filled day for the whole family, with both kids and adults catered for.”
Jongilanga added: “There is also an educational aspect to it. On Friday, the department of labour is bringing in education and training authorities from 10 different sectors to empower kids from our community with career choices and tell them about the services they have.
“This is our second event and we are expecting a much larger attendance. This is how we are trying to create a viable agri-tourism destination.”
Event organiser Vuyo Pakade said most of the entertainers booked to perform were from Ncera and the province.
“The festival is also a developmental event and we wanted to include as many artists from the area and use this as a platform for their talent.”
Artist Sandiso Dyantyi plans to use the money he will be paid to perform at the event to purchase more equipment for his local dance group.
“I am a praise poet, but we also have dancers and singers.
“I will be able to buy the materials we use when we sing and new traditional attire.”
Fans will be treated to the rugby match between South Africa and England on big screens on Saturday evening...
