Dispatch journalists win big at national awards

The Daily Dispatch continued to be recognised for its sterling investigative journalism work when it scooped the prestigious national Vodacom Journalist of the Year award on Thursday night.
Former Dispatch chief reporter Bongani Fuzile won the award for the work he did on the missing pensions of former mine workers. Earlier he had won the investigative journalism award for the same story.
Dispatch digital journalist, Sino Majangaza, scooped the Multi-Platform Journalist of the Year Award.
In total there were four Dispatch journalist that were nominated for the prestigious Awards.
Daily Dispatch editor Sibusiso Ngalwa said: "As the Dispatch family we are proud of Bongani and Sino's achievements. The awards are a fitting recognition of the hard work that our colleagues put into these important projects."
He said Fuzile's meticulous investigation into the missing pensions of former mine workers will go down in history as one of the most important pieces of journalism in a democratic South Africa.
On the other hand, Majangaza made sure that the squalid living conditions of students at university residences in the Eastern Cape were exposed. "He spent weeks visiting campuses, taking pictures, recording videos and in the end he produced such a fine piece of multimedia journalism".
Ngalwa added that the awards were also a recognition of the Dispatch as a news outlet which continues to tell relevant stories...
