One dead in three-car pile-up on N2

A three car pile-up on N2 claimed the life of one person outside Butterworth on Friday morning. Three other people sustained minor to critical injuries.
Department of transport spokesman Unathi Binqose said a state-owned VW Amarok that was travelling from Butterworth collided with two oncoming cars along a sharp curve.
"All three vehicles collided head on. The driver of Amarok [was] declared dead on scene while his occupant sustained critical injuries. Two white occupants from one of the other vehicles sustained serious injuries while other driver sustained slight injuries."
The identity of the deceased had not yet been released.
Binqose alleged that slippery road surfaces were suspected to be the main cause of the accident as the area previously had incidents of cooking oil spillage and unfavorable weather condition not favouring road users. He said the injured were taken to Butterworth hospital and St Dominic’s hospital .
"The case of culpable homicide opened at Msobomvu Saps for further investigation."..
