Three videos from a Carletonville crècheshowing a teacher beating up children and throwing them down are dominating headlines, and the daycare centre is at the very top of the Twitter trends list.

South Africans have been reeling with anger since the videos reached the public domain. They called for the arrest of the teacher and for her to get the harshest sentence possible.

The owner of the crèche is also under the spotlight and at the receiving end of the backlash, following claims by parents that she had always known that their children were subjected to abuse.

The departments of basic education and social development intervened to ensure the abusive teacher’s arrest. The incidents captured in the three videos stirred emotions and sparked conversations around rooting out abuse.

Some said the teacher’s actions were grooming children to be perpetrators of abuse themselves in future.
