St John's Primary rape and murder claims untrue, says education department

The Eastern Cape department of Education has dismissed rumours circulating on social media that a St John's Primary School  pupil was raped and killed at the school building on Tuesday.

Education spokesperson Malibongwe Mtima said a body of an adult male was found near the school premises on Tuesday.

“It is not on one  the children, there was a body that was found dead near the school yesterday (Tuesday). “

An employee at the school who cannot be named as she is not authorised to speak to the media said the reports were fake news.

“No child has been killed at our school. We did pick up the rumours. There was a dead body of a man found near our school but it was not one of our pupils.”
