Eastern Cape's battle against Covid-19 received a shot in the arm after Springbok captain Siya Kolisi donated equipment to fight the pandemic.

On Tuesday morning, provincial health department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said the donation would make a big difference.

“Health workers are at the front line and are effectively the first line of defence against Covid-19,” Kupelo said.

“The donation is yet another indication that if we work together as government, sportsmen and women, religious leaders, businesses, traditional leaders, civil society, NPOs and NGOs, and communities, we will win the fight against the coronavirus.”

Kupelo added: “Indeed, we are stronger together. While we welcome the donation, it is important to note that the department has enough surgical masks, gloves, aprons, and protective eye goggles.

\“The best way for citizens to ensure the virus does not spread any further is for them to stay at home, practise good personal hygiene and keep a two metre physical distance.”
