WATCH | Ramaphosa, Mkhize arrive in Eastern Cape to assess Covid-19 containment

South African president Cyril Ramaphosa arrived at Livingston Hospital in Port Elizabeth on Thursday to “assess work done thus far and to get first-hand information on the co-ordination and implementation of Covid-19 containment plans in the province,” according to the provincial health department.

Ramaphosa was accompanied by health minister Zweli Mkhize.

The two are also scheduled to visit Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, which has been earmarked as a coronavirus quarantine facility.

“You are here today to motivate us to ensure that our province is ready to fight the pandemic. How lucky we are that the President in this province because we are fighting this pandemic together,” said Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane, adding that “health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has been helping us to navigate through the troubled waters of Covid-19.”
