AbaThembu Prince Azenathi Dalindyebo is no longer wanted by the police.

Last Wednesday, after the former acting king and his legal team failed to appear in court, the Mthatha magistrate’s court issued a warrant of arrest.

This, said NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali, was because no reasons were given for the non-attendance.

Azenathi, 28, initially made a brief appearance on June 8 on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and pointing a firearm.

He was released on warning and the matter was postponed to August 5.

The prince is accused of assaulting Babalo Papu, spokesperson and adviser to King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo.

Tyali on Tuesday confirmed that the warrant of arrest against Azenathi  had been withdrawn.

“It was cancelled on August 6. He is due in court again on October 5,” Tyali said.

Azenathi's lawyer, Sinawo Makhangela, said: “Our client was unwell, hence he could not attend the court proceedings. We have given them a copy of the medical certificate and we had the warrant of arrest cancelled.

“On the next court appearance he will be required to produce the original medical certificate.”
