Eastern Cape mother and son stabbed, shot dead as house torched

An elderly woman and her son were stabbed and shot dead before their house was set alight in Ngcobo on Friday night.

The 73-year-old mother and her  38-year-old son died on the scene  while four children were left with serious burn injuries.

The incident has left residents of Ngxogi village reeling with shock amid  fears of revenge killing.

Local ward 15 councillor Thembinkosi Ngxangana said the incident happened at about 9pm.

"Tour young children, aged 12 and 13, sustained burn wounds. They were rushed to hospital," said Ngxangani. 

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Sibongile Soci confirmed that police were looking for four suspects linked to the shooting. Cases of murder and attempted murder have been opened. - DispatchLIVE
