On Wednesday, South Africa will finally hold its by-elections which have been delayed since March due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
These particular by-elections are important as key municipalities could see change to their leadership. Forty parties will compete in 95 municipal wards, hosting more than 440 candidates, 19 of whom are independent. This year around 69% of the candidates are men and 31% are women.
