Parents and relatives of Enyobeni Tavern victims have rejected the apology of Siyakhangela Ndevu, the taverns operational manager.

While testifying in the East London court on Wednesday, Ndevu tendered an apology to the families.

This was after he was asked by his attorney Precious Daniel if he had anything to say to the parents.

“What happened to them, losing their children in the manner they lost them there, is painful. It was not their will. It was not my will or the children’s will that they die there. So I do apologise. I sympathise with them and their pain, Ndevu said.

On the sidelines, Khululekile Ncandana, said as parents they reject the apology.

“After more than a year he only thinks now that he must make an apology because he was in a tight corner from the prosecutor. Previously he said it by himself that he won’t apologies because he didn’t kill our children. Now he is in a tight corner and he is being forced to apologise.

“That kind of apology doesn’t come from himself or inside. He is saying that because he was asked to do so. We reject that apology totally. If when you apologise you are sincere, you must make that apology sincerely and truthfully. He is not truthful about his apology. He is just buying the eyes of the court.”

The trial is set to resume soon.
