DJ brings different twist to EL club scene

EAST London entrepreneur Jason Stone, who has been running Grind Café coffee shop from the back of his panel van for the past three years is now venturing into the nightclub business, but with a twist.

Stone said his new project was something that locals had never experienced before.

“I’m renting out the Alien Zone bar at the Beacon Bay Crossing mall once every month and will invite different deep-house music DJs to come and play,” he said chatting to the Daily Dispatch yesterday.

“But this will have a different type of vibe, where it won’t just be about partying and getting drunk, people will get a chance to both socialise and dance if they want to.”

He said he had chosen Alien Zone due to its location and design.

Stone, who is a regular DJ at Raggies in Beacon Bay, said that while the nightclub scene was dying in EL, he believed he would offer something different to patrons.

“Clubs are a bit confining, once you are inside the club you are stuck inside until you go home, whereas here, if the music gets too much you can sit out on the deck and still have fun,” he said, adding that he wanted to attract a more mature crowd.

“For starters we have a cover charge, even if you just want to buy a drink and chill outside you will have to pay. We also have age restriction, no under 21s, which we will be monitoring carefully and patrons will also have to abide by a dress code,” he said. The first all-night party will be held on June 6 and tickets will be on sale at the Putt Putt Bar for R40 and R50 at the door on the day. ziphon@dispatch.co.za
