Some exciting times are ahead this weekend, from live music to an arts and craft festival – take your pick and let your hair down!

The Soil

Tommorow, an award-winning

a cappela group is bringing their Experience The Soil tour to the city. The aim is to develop young talent, where unsigned artists get to share the stage with the trio. The show will be held at the Orient Theatre. Tickets are R150 at Computicket.

Jikeleza Festival

Running from tomorrow until Sunday, this annual event promises loads of fun with live entertainment included. There will be more than 100 stalls of handcrafted items, clothing, food, etc; as well as an art exhibition.

Koi show

Join this event for a chance to see some of the province’s finest and largest koi on Saturday and Sunday at the Beacon Bay Spargs SUPERSPAR. Tickets are R10 for adults, R5 for children and free entry for pensioners. For more information contact 083-657-4761.

Open-air cinema

Live at Legends

Twenty-three-year-old East London musician, Jason Gladwin, who will soon be releasing his debut album Untamed, performs at Legends Showcase Venue in Berea next week, Saturday 13 August. Tickets are R60 available from Lee Gold Music.

The former Selbornian has played alongside leading South African bands and artists, such as The Parlotones, Al Bairre, Jeremy Loops, The Plastics, Matthew Mole, Majozi, Crash Car Burn, Prime Circle, Dance You’re On Fire, Shortstraw and Dan Patlansky. His music has a lyrical strength and depth that tugs at the heart strings.

Gladwin is enjoying massive success online, with more than 300000 plays on soundcloud alone and an additional 150 000 on YouTube.

Having recently signed a management deal, he will be looking to play at a variety of venues and festivals across the country.

Women’s Day celebration

Bucaneers Pub is hosting a Women’s Day pre-celebration on Monday featuring popular house DJ Shimza, as well as performances by some of the province’s top female DJs Lady Mpume and Lady Aveez. Entrance is R50 for ladies and R70 for the gentlemen.

Songs from musicals

The East London Cantata Choir will be presenting their mid-year concert on Sunday under the above theme. The concert will be held at St Johns Anglican Church in Oxford Street, from 4pm. Admission is free.

Gospel Women United

The second annual women’s celebration and empowerment event takes place at the Orient Theatre on Sunday. Speakers and performers include all-female gospel music heavyweights, such as Yolanda Vuthela, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Veliswa, Khanyisa and many more. Tickets are R100 for adults and R50 for children. Show starts at 10am.
