A triple loss for Mthatha Airport

By ASANDA NINI and BONGANI FUZILE

In a triple disaster, Mthatha Airport has lost a new fire engine, R7-million, and a commercial airline company that was to provide cheap flights to Johannesburg.

The R7-million was paid for a Brutus ARFF 6x6 airport crash tanker, which would have meant the runways were open for the Fly Blue Crane planes.

But the Brutus has yet to be delivered, and in February Fly Blue Crane stopped flying and was put under business rescue.

Yesterday, the Dispatch asked a spokesman for the Gauteng-based Fire Raiders Pty Ltd, Vick Alberts, about the non-delivery of the fire truck.
