Eastern Cape man held for alleged murder after stabbing

A fight between two males, one believed to still be a boy according to Xhosa customs, ended in a death when the boy murdered an age-mate who didn’t want to be called by his name as he was a man.
Elliotdale police on Monday arrested a 22-year-old man for the alleged murder of Mpho July, also 22 years of age. They were both from Sholorha Village.
The police said in a statement that a quarrel between the two broke out after the accused, who is uncircumcised, called the deceased by his name.
Butterworth police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said: “A quarrel arose when the suspect who is still a boy called the deceased by his name. The suspect then drew his knife and fatally stabbed the deceased on his upper body. He then ran away from the scene. Elliotdale police detectives traced and arrested him on Monday.”
Manatha said the suspect would appear before the Elliotdale magistrate’s court on Wednesday on a murder charge.
“Butterworth Cluster Police appeal to the villagers to end their traditional ceremonies at 5pm to avoid commission of a crime.”..
