A 65-year-old man was shot inside his car at the Amalinda KFC’s drive through in East London on Amalinda Main Road at around 6.05 on Monday evening.

Mdantsane police cluster spokesperson Nkosikho Mzuku said the man was rushed to hospital with a wound.

Mzuku said a case of attempted murder has been opened following the incident.

When the Dispatch arrived at the scene at 8. 30pm, the usually bustling popular franchise was closed with police cordon tape while eight police officers including forensic experts were working on the crime scene.

At the busy crime scene, two more police officers were overseeing the towing of the victim’s white Toyota Corrola sedan.

The car looked like it was deserted with two of its doors wide opened and was facing the wrong direction on the driveway of the franchise.

Details of the incident are still sketchy at the moment.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are not clear at this stage, no arrests yet. Investigation continues,” said Mzuku.

Mzuku said anyone with information about the suspects is requested to contact the investigation officer Mbuso Booi of the Provincial Organised Crime unit at 079 8969 777.

The store is no stranger to police investigations, on March 12 2018 the same franchise made world headlines after a homeless boy was crushed to death by a trolley of frozen chicken.

The trolley had broken lose from high up on a refrigerator truck’s “tail lift” and fell on the boy standing on the ground.
